    Quality apprenticeships play a pivotal role in facilitating the transition from the informal to the formal economy. Key strategies for enhancing apprenticeships in the informal economy towards quality apprenticeships involve capitalizing on existing systems, promoting social dialogue, strengthening apprenticeship contracts, building the capacity of MSMEs and their associations, ensuring off-the-job learning opportunities, recognizing prior learning, and promoting equality, diversity, and social inclusion.

    Skills development initiatives can help prevent conflict and strengthen peace in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. If designed or adapted appropriately, they can strengthen inclusive social dialogue and trust between groups and increase people’s sense of inclusion and their resilience to disruption and violence, through increased employability. Peace can be achieved by adopting peace and conflict analysis, conflict- and gender-sensitivity measures, a social dialogue- based approach, and a strong focus on fairness and inclusion.

  6. Guide - Mainstreaming gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) and the prevention and response to sexual violence in vocational education and training institutions

    The ILO Skills for Prosperity Programme worked on establishing new regulations in Indonesian TVET institutions to address sexual harassment and violence in higher education for the very first time. The work was completed with four state polytechnics, establishing a senior taskforce responsible, working with social partners to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) that integrated investigations, prosecutions and victim support with local services; and publishing and socialising the guidelines within the institution.

    This guide is addressed to all institutions, organisations and individuals involved in the design and implementation of public policies aimed at improving care services. It comprises those working at the macro level to promote transformative care policy packages with a human-centered approach as an essential element for the quality of services. It also caters to those institutions, organisations and individuals that are directly linked to the provision of training, capacity building, assessment and certification of labour competences, who are at heart of improving the planning and impact of care services, and offers them a broad vision of the topic and concrete examples of best practices.

    This document compiles experiences of training and certification services for care workers that are currently underway, mainly in public institutions in Latin America. The aim of this compilation is to provide an overview of the context in which training and certification policies are embedded, as well as to present details of the characteristics of the services, the main achievements, challenges and lessons learned. Although it is a sample of the existing offer, the aim is to generate quality information that contributes to decision-making for the improvement of co-responsibility for care, especially in education and technical-professional training policies, while considering the need to operate under a systemic vision.
