MINOR GROUP 814: WOOD-PROCESSING- AND PAPERMAKING-PLANT OPERATORS
 


    Wood-processing- and papermaking-plant operators operate and monitor machinery and equipment which saw, cut and grind wood in preparation for further use, convert wood and other materials into pulp, and make paper from pulp.

    Tasks performed usually include: operating and monitoring machinery and equipment which process wood for further use, convert wood and other materials into pulp, and make paper from pulp. Supervision of other workers may be included.

    Occupations in this minor group are classified into the following unit groups:

    8141 Wood-processing-plant operators

    8142 Paper-pulp plant operators

    8143 Papermaking-plant operators

    Note

    Occupations are classified into Major group 7, Craft and related trades workers if the tasks are carried out by hand and by hand-powered and other tools and call for an understanding of the work organisation, the materials and tools used, and the nature and purpose of the final product.

    Occupations are classified into Major group 9, Elementary occupations if the tasks are of a simple and routine nature, mainly entail the use of hand-held tools, some physical effort, little or no previous experience and understanding of the work, and limited initiative or judgement.
