Building and fire inspectors, on behalf of the government
or industrial and other enterprises, inspect new and existing
houses, industrial plant, hotels and other buildings and
structures to ensure compliance with building, grading and
zoning laws and with approved plans, specifications and
standards, or inspect fire-prevention systems and investigate
fire sites to determine cause of fire.
Tasks include -
(a) advising those erecting buildings and other structures on
the implementation of building, grading and zoning laws,
as well as other rules concerning quality and safety of
buildings;
(b) inspecting buildings and structures during and after
construction to ensure that they comply with building,
grading, zoning and safety laws and approved plans,
specifications and standards, as well as with other rules
concerning quality and safety of buildings;
(c) inspecting existing buildings and structures to determine
whether lack of proper maintenance, housing violations or
hazardous conditions exist;
(d) inspecting industrial plant, hotels, cinemas and other
buildings and structures to detect fire hazards and advise
on how they can be removed;
(e) advising on the installation of fire detectors and
sprinkler systems and the use of materials in the
construction of buildings and means of transportation to
reduce risk of fire and extent of damage and danger if fire
occurs:
(f) investigating fire sites to determine cause of fire;
(g) performing related tasks;
(h) supervising other workers.
