Follow-up by the agencies of the Global Migration Group to the Second United Nations High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development

In 2013, 232 million people were international migrants, compared with 175 million in 2000 and 154 million in 1990.1 In recent years, migration has become a global phenomenon with more countries serving simultaneously as countries of origin, transit, and destination for migrants. The growing size and complexity of international migration entails both development opportunities and challenges. The United Nations (UN) convened the Second High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development (HLD) during the sixty-eighth session of the UN General Assembly (GA) on 3-4 October 2013 to reflect on ways migrants and migration can become an integral part of the Post-2015 UN development agenda.
