Peru to hold first international seminar on green growth strategies

Under the slogan “Towards an Economy with Green Growth in Peru”, the Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion and the Ministry of Environment invite national and international partners to a 2 day seminar to discuss the country’s opportunities for creating an economy with green growth.

The seminar, to be held on 28 and 29 April, seeks to promote a common understanding of green growth, green economy and green jobs. Participants will exchange international and national green economy and green growth experiences, discuss development priorities for Peru and identify knowledge gaps and opportunities for learning.

The event will also offer the opportunity to launch officially the PAGE (Partnership of Action on Green Economy) initiative in Peru. PAGE, created by the International Organization, the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and the United Nations Program for Development, is a response to the Rio+20 outcome document, entitled The Future We Want.

In late 2013, Peru was selected to become the second country to benefit from the PAGE initiative after the government formally requested support to advance its green economy transition.

By 2020, PAGE aims to contribute to the equitable and sustainable transformation of national economic structures in 30 countries.

As a designated country, Peru will be supported through four components: i) applied research and knowledge creation; ii) policy dialogue with government officials and other important stakeholders; iii) capacity building, education and training; and iv) advisory services on green economy issues.

The seminar will be held at the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar in Lima. The official ceremony to launch the PAGE initiative in Peru will take place on 29 April, at 3pm.
