Activities of the Employment Intensive Investment Programme in Jamaica

EIIP Involvement in Jamaica

The Employment Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP) was involved in Jamaica in the Rural Component for the Jamaican Emergency Programme between 2012 and 2014, The Programme was designed to respond to the situation of chronic unemployment of some Jamaicans, particularly vulnerable people with special needs or low levels of education.

EIIP interventions aimed at demonstrating and developing a model for rural infrastructure maintenance, and sustainable land management using labour intensive techniques. The EIIP was active in activities related to roads and infrastructure such as routine maintenance (clearing drains, bushing, removal of debris, fallen trees, waste etc.) as well as spot improvements such as repair (drains, retaining walls, culverts, land slippage). It also developed capacity building activities for stakeholders and officials as well as for participants in the construction work.
