Celebrating green jobs and decent work in Jordan on International Labour Day

Date issued: 09 May 2023 |

On Labour Day, an ILO Employment Intensive Infrastructure Project in Jordan is celebrating the implementation of a special green agricultural technology that the Ministry of Agriculture is using for the National Afforestation Plan.

The new “cocoon” method uses biodegradable incubators to plant young tree saplings sustainably and affordably.

Through this project, funded by Germany through the German Development Bank (KfW), the ILO is set to recruit 1,250 Jordanian and Syrian women and men, including persons with disabilities, to plant 87,000 trees. It will also build the capacity of government staff, and provide skills and entrepreneurship packages to workers to help them access the labour market.
