    Cooperatives have enjoyed success in Sri Lanka. By banding together, farmers and fishermen have been able to access markets, enjoy the advantages of collective purchasing and marketing, tap credit facilities and access social welfare programs.

    ILO sponsors training on agricultural cooperative management through My.Coop distance learning programme

    12 March 2018

    Since 2012 the International Training Centre of the ILO has organized a distance learning Training of Trainers programme on My.Coop – Managing your agricultural cooperative training package. The latest edition took place in late 2017, with participation of four participants sponsored by the ILO’s Cooperatives Unit.

    Countries in Focus on Statistics of Cooperatives is a series produced by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) as part of a larger initiative to increase understanding of the ways in which countries around the world are producing and using statistics on cooperatives. Currently reliable and comparable statistics on cooperatives are missing in most countries of the world. These statistics are essential to measure the impact of cooperatives on their members and the economy as a whole.

    EMPOWER: Building peace through the economic empowerment of women in Northern Sri Lanka

    The objective of this project is to increase access to economic empowerment, social integration, resilience and peacebuilding participation for conflict affected women in Mullaitivu, one of the most conflict-affected Northern Districts of Sri Lanka. The project is funded by the UN Peace Building Fund and implemented by the ILO, WFP, and Puthukkudiyiruppu Women Entrepreneurs’ Cooperative Society.

    On 24-25 November 2017, ILO Enterprise Development Specialist from ILO CO Manila participated in the 2nd Philippine Cooperative Managers’ Conference organized by the National Capital Region League of the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives (NCRL-PFCCO) in Tagaytay, the Philippines.
