On June 16, the International Labour Conference adopted the Employment and Decent Work for the Transition to Peace Recommendation, 2017 (No. 205), which updates an earlier ILO Recommendation (No. 71) adopted in 1944 to provide state-of-the-art guidance to address contemporary crisis situations arising from conflicts and disasters. It also widens the focus of the standard on reconstruction and recovery to include prevention and preparedness.

In paragraph 11.(c) of the new recommendation, cooperatives and other social economy initiatives are mentioned among the measures to promote full, productive, freely chosen employment and decent work and income-generation opportunities in building peace and resilience.
