How to monitor the impact of the COVID-19 crisis and the recovery process: Lessons from the ILO Monitor Series

EMPLOYMENT Seminar #37. The seminar will discuss how to monitor and analyse labour market changes in a timely and cost-effective manner in times of crisis, drawing lessons from the ILO Monitor Series.

Background

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored how timely, relevant and reliable data and analysis is a key to effective and adaptive policy responses. In particular, the rapidly evolving situation during the crisis highlighted a growing need for new innovative approaches in both data collection and analysis. For the last two years, the ILO has developed an innovative monitoring system based on real time data and new estimation methods to support policy dialogue and developments among ILO constituents. The outcome of these efforts has been presented in the ILO Monitor Series, the eighth edition of which was published in October 2021. As the world recovers, the need for monitoring and analysis remains strong. In light of this, the ILO recently decided to establish a monitoring framework in countries to support a human-centered recovery.
