- 70. At its November 1999 meeting, the Committee noted the information provided by the Government in respect of the 1998 Data Protection Act which extended restrictions on the processing of "sensitive" personal data to both manually processed and computer- processed data, thus closing the loophole previously exploited by the Economic League. It further noted the Government's intention to make regulations under the powers granted by the 1999 Employment Relations Act to prohibit the compilation, dissemination and use of lists containing information about trade union membership or activities with a view to their being used by employers or employment agencies in recruitment or to discriminate against trade unionists in employment (see 318th Report, paras. 71-73).
- 71. In a communication dated 18 January 2000, the Government indicated its intention to draft these regulations later this year.
- 72. The Committee takes due note of this information and requests the Government to keep it informed of any further developments in this regard.
