Parts I and II of the Convention. The Committee notes the Government’s indication that no changes have taken place during the reporting period affecting the application of the Convention. It notes that, according to the information available to the ILO Department of Statistics (ILOSTAT), the main source of statistics on wages and hours of work is the Labour Force Sample Survey, as well as two establishment surveys conducted by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). These surveys cover all establishments with ten or more workers in the entire country, and cover all economic activities, except for public administration, compulsory social security, activities of households as employers and activities of extraterritorial organizations. Statistical and methodological information derived from this survey is publicly available on the CAPMAS website. In addition, statistics on working time and earnings of employees are also regularly submitted to ILOSTAT via its annual questionnaire on labour statistics and/or derived from micro data. The earnings statistics submitted come from the abovementioned establishment surveys, while the working time statistics submitted come from the Labour Force Sample Survey conducted by the CAPMAS on a quarterly basis. The Committee requests the Government to continue to provide up-to-date statistics on working time and average earnings, disaggregated by sex and economic activity (compiled separately for mining, manufacturing and construction), as well as the relevant methodological information.
The Committee recalls that the ILO Governing Body, at its 334th Session, October–November 2018, on the recommendation of the Standards Review Mechanism Tripartite Working Group, confirmed the classification of the Convention concerning Statistics of Wages and Hours of Work, 1938 (No. 63) as an outdated instrument, and placed an item on the agenda of the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference (2024) for the consideration of its abrogation or withdrawal. The Governing Body requested the Office to undertake follow-up action to actively encourage the ratification of up-to-date instruments concerning labour statistics. In this respect, the Committee notes that the compilation and dissemination of labour statistics in Egypt is generally in compliance with the requirements of the Labour Statistics Convention, 1985 (No. 160).The Committee encourages the Government to follow up the Governing Body’s decision at its 334th Session (October–November 2018) approving the recommendations of the Standards Review Mechanism Tripartite Working Group, and to consider ratifying the Labour Statistics Convention, 1985 (No. 160), as the most up-to-date instrument in this subject area. The Committee notes that the Government may avail itself of ILO technical assistance in this respect.
