The Committee notes that in 2007 the Government embarked on a process to reform the Labour Code in collaboration with the Tripartite Consultation and Arbitration Committee, and that it is awaiting proposals in this connection from employers’ and workers’ organizations. It requests the Government to keep the Office informed of all developments in this regard.
Part V of the report form. The Committee notes the information sent by the Government to the effect that the country is having difficulty in overseeing conditions of work in private enterprises because the Labour Inspection Service lacks the necessary logistics. It also notes that the Labour Directorate has to intervene downstream when disputes arise. Lastly, it notes that the Government seeks technical support from the ILO for the creation of a database for labour statistics. The Committee requests the Government to refer to its comments under the Labour Inspection Convention, 1947 (No. 81), regarding measures to be taken in order to make the inspection services fully operational. It also hopes that, with assistance from the Office, the Government will shortly be in a position to establish labour statistics that include data on the number of workers covered by the legislation giving effect to the Convention.
