The Committee notes the information provided by the Government, which answers the points raised in its previous direct request and has no further matters to raise in this regard.

Article 7 of the Convention. Statistics on morbidity and mortality due to lead poisoning. Application of the Convention in practice. The Committee previously noted that, according to the information provided by the Government, painters are usually self-employed workers and that the technical assistance mission to Lomé in 2011 had concluded that appropriate tools to collect statistical data in Togo needed to be developed. The Committee notes the Government’s indication in the present report that there are no statistics available on lead poisoning. The Committee requests the Government to take the necessary measures to ensure the collection of the data required by this Article. In the meantime, it requests the Government to provide any available information on lead-related diseases and any other information related to the application of the Convention in practice.

Article 7 of the Convention. Statistics. With reference to its previous comments, the Committee notes the information that while no case of lead poisoning could be found in the official records in the country, the Government indicates that it was aware that official records only recorded information concerning a very small part of the working population in Togo as painters most often were independent workers. The Committee also notes the reference made by the Government to the conclusions of the technical assistance mission to Lomé in 2011 concerning the need to develop appropriate tools to collect statistical data in the country and that the planned modernization of labour administration in the country would also focus on the need to improve the collection, management and use of relevant information in the country. The Committee hopes that planned improvements for the collection of data in the country soon will be implemented, and that the Government’s next report will contain statistics on lead poisoning as provided for in Article 7 of the Convention, as well as information on the statistical methods used.

The Committee notes with regret that the Government’s report has not been received. It hopes that a report will be supplied for examination by the Committee at its next session and that it will contain full information on the matters raised in its previous direct request, which read as follows:

Article 7 of the Convention. Statistics. The Committee notes that, since the ratification of the Convention, the Government has never provided statistics on morbidity and mortality among working painters due to lead poisoning. The Committee hopes that the Government’s next report will contain statistics on lead poisoning as provided for by Article 7 of the Convention, while providing information on the statistical methods adopted.

The Committee would be grateful if the Government would supply with its next report the statistics called for by Article 7 of the Convention on cases of morbidity and mortality caused by lead poisoning.
