Seafarers' Pensions Convention, 1946 (No. 71) - Argentina (RATIFICATION: 1955)

DISPLAYINEnglish - French - Spanish

CMNT_TITLE

The Committee notes the observations of the General Confederation of Labour (CGT), communicated with the Government’s report.
Article 2(2)(e) of the Convention. Persons employed in port. The Committee refers to the observations of the CGT, indicating that, although port workers must be included in the same pension scheme as seafarers, including as own-account workers or members of cooperatives, high levels of precarity remain in this respect, particularly in work on shore. In this context, the Committee requests the Government to: (i) provide a response to the observations of the CGT; and (ii) indicate whether waged port workers are included in the pension scheme under the application of the Convention.

Article 3, paragraph 2, of the Convention. With reference to its previous comments, the Committee notes that workers and employers have to contribute collectively to the costs of pensions for persons in an employment relationship, and that the unified financing of the national insurance system prevents the differentiation of earnings according to activities.

The Committee requests the Government to indicate in its next report the percentages of pension contributions payable respectively by workers and employers.
