The Committee notes that the Government’s report has not been received. It must therefore repeat its previous observation which read as follows:
1. The Committee notes with interest the adoption of two new anti discrimination laws on 1 May 1999 prohibiting discrimination in the workplace on the grounds of functional impairment (Act No. 1999:132) and sexual orientation (Act No. 1999:133). It also notes with interest the adoption on 1 May 1999 of Act No. 1999:130 on Action against Ethnic Discrimination at Work. It notes that the Act prohibits direct and indirect discrimination, covers all aspects of the employment relationship including recruitment, and requires the employer to take active measures to prevent ethnic discrimination. The Committee also notes that the Act establishes that there shall be an Ombudsman against Ethnic Discrimination (DO) and the Anti-Discrimination Commission which are to be responsible for monitoring the application of the Act. 2. The Committee is raising other points in a request addressed directly to the Government.

The Committee hopes that the Government will make every effort to provide information on the implementation and impact of the new legislation.
