Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. Ensuring Decent Work and Reducing Vulnerabilities for Women and Children in the Context of Labour Migration in Southeast Asia

    1 January 2024 - 31 December 2026

    The project which is also known as the “Protection of the Rights of Women and Children in Labour Migration” project (PROTECT) aims to protect the rights of women migrant workers and migrant children in South-East Asia. Funded by the European Union, PROTECT is a joint project implemented by ILO, UN Women, UNICEF and UNODC. ILO is responsible for leading and coordinating the project.

  2. EU-India Cooperation and Dialogue on Migration and Mobility - Phase II

    1 October 2023 - 31 October 2025

    The objective of the project is to support cooperation on migration and mobility and address challenges related to irregular migration within the EU-India migration corridor.

    Migrant Advocacy for Rights

    26 September 2023 - 29 September 2026

    The project aims to improve the rights realization of migrant workers in informal agriculture and manufacturing in, and beyond, special economic zones in Thailand.

  4. Agroforestry Skills for Employment and Resilience in Timor-Leste

    1 September 2023 - 31 August 2027

    The European Union (EU) “Agroforestry-Skills” programme seeks to promote green and sustainable economic diversification and resilience in Timor-Leste through private sector development, technical and vocational education training (TVET) for youth integration in the labour market.

  5. Rebuilding better coconut economy: Demonstrating an integrated inclusive recovery model from Super Typhoon Rai (Odette) and overlaying crises

    1 July 2023 - 30 June 2024

    The ILO project funded by the Government of Japan provides strategic support and guidance to local governments targeting coconut farmers and the working-age population who are greatly affect by the Super Typhoon Odette.

  6. Accelerating Universal Social Protection for Achieving the SDGs and Ending Poverty

    1 June 2023 - 31 May 2025

    The project aims to accelerate progress towards universal social protection through strengthening of policy design, administrative and financial governance, and digital transformation of social protection systems as well as to encourage learning between countries in the Global South.

  7. Empowerment of rural informal workers through advocacy, skills development and outreach

    31 May 2023 - 30 May 2024

    This project is funded by the ILO-Japan Social Safety Net (SSN) fund and managed by the ILO’s Bureau of Workers Activities (ACTRAV) and delivered through CO-Suva in collaboration with the Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC) and Papua New Guinea Trades Union Congress (PNGTUC).

    From Protocol to Practice: A Bridge to Global Action on Forced Labour (The Bridge Project II)

    1 May 2023 - 31 December 2024

    The Bridge Project funded by United States Department of Labour (USDOL) aims to combat forced labour globally. It seeks to raise awareness and ratifications of the ILO Protocol 29, improve national policies, conduct research, strengthen worker and employers' organizations, and provide support to victims of forced labour.

  9. Skills Development and Responsible Business Conduct

    3 April 2023 - 31 May 2025

    Funded by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the project aims at supporting a human-centred recovery from recent disruptions in the global supply chains.

  10. Accelerating Green Jobs Creation and Facilitating Just Transitions in ASEAN

    1 April 2023 - 31 March 2024

    Accelerating Green Jobs Creation and Facilitating Just Transitions in ASEAN, funded by the ILO Japan Multi-Bilateral Programme and using resources from the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, aims to increase collaboration and cooperation in ASEAN member states for just transitions.

  11. From Protocol to Practice: A Bridge to Global Action on Forced Labor - Phase II (The Bridge Project II) Nepal

    1 April 2023 - 31 January 2025

    The Project aims to improve the global, regional, and country-level capacity to eliminate forced labour through the framework, principles, and guidance of the 2014 ILO Protocol and Recommendation on Forced Labour.

  12. Skills Development and Responsible Business Conduct for Transition

    1 April 2023 - 31 March 2025

    The project aims at putting in place supportive measures to accompany all enterprises efforts to promote responsible business conduct in line with international labour standards and in harmony with the country’s development priorities.

  13. Fostering the Transition to Formality of Informal Workers and Economic Units in Mongolia

    1 April 2023 - 31 March 2025

    The project is to provide technical support to tripartite constituents to foster the transition to formality of informal workers and economic units in Mongolia through the implementation of an integrated approach to promote policy coherence, utilisation of technologies to access information & ease registration, and the provision of business development services to enhance businesses formalisation.

  14. Supply Chains for a Sustainable Future of Work

    1 April 2023 - 31 March 2024

    The project supports an inclusive and sustainable future of work in three supply chains of importance to the European Union to achieve full and productive employment and decent work.

    Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work in the Cotton Supply Chain: RISE for Impact – A New Phase, A New Vision

    2 March 2023 - 2 March 2026

    The project funded by INDITEX aim to scale up the community model developed under the first phase of the project, in order to foster a partnership approach among the actors for enhanced respect for FPRW in cotton growing communities and a sustainable cotton supply chain in Pakistan.

  16. Enabling Sectoral Pathways towards Formality for Vulnerable Workers, and Enterprises in Nepal’s Informal Economy

    1 March 2023 - 28 February 2025

    This intervention aims to strengthen the technical and institutional capacities of tripartite constituents in Nepal to address vulnerabilities of workers and economic units in the informal economy in the agriculture, transport, and construction sectors and ultimately facilitate their transition to formality.

  17. Quality Apprenticeship and Lifelong Learning in China – Phase 2

    1 February 2023 - 31 December 2025

    The project provides capacity building on quality apprenticeship, skill anticipation and matching, and core skill development with focuses on social inclusion and the green transition. The project aims to promote workers’ employability, reduce job-skill mismatch in the labour market in China, and enhance international exchanges on apprenticeships and lifelong learning.

  18. Promoting the transition to formalization through integrated approaches in Cambodia

    1 February 2023 - 28 February 2025

    This project aims to support the formalization of jobs and enterprises in Cambodia. The intervention targets workers and enterprises in the informal economy, particularly female workers, and micro and small enterprises in some selected sectors.
