The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), ILO and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) today launched a 2.5-million-Euro Project of Support to the Design and Implementation of National Programmes on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Viet Nam.

Employment policy, social protection needed to help Cambodian garment workers recover from impacts of economic downturn

(ILO, Phnom Penh) On the surface, those garment workers who were not laid off as a result of the economic downturn should be considered lucky. But new data from an ILO led survey shows that even those who kept their jobs were not left unscathed – many have had their salaries significantly reduced and now struggle to cover basic living costs.

ILO launches the second phase of collaborative project to prevent labour and sexual trafficking in China

(ILO Beijing) ILO and the All-China Women Federation (ACWF) have been working in close partnership over the last four years to reduce the trafficking of women and children for labour exploitation. With the support of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the ILO is proud to launch the second phase of its Project to Prevent Trafficking for Labour Exploitation in China (CP-TING – Phase II) in Beijing on 17 March 2010.

Thai Unions to promote decent work for persons with disabilities

(ILO Bangkok) The push for greater recognition in the workplace of the rights of people with disabilities has received a boost from Thai trade unions. Facilitated by the ILO, representatives of worker organizations met to discuss the role of trade unions in promoting the rights, employability and employment of women and men with disabilities at a workshop in Bangkok, 4-5 March. Following the meeting, it was agreed that a further consultation of people with disabilities would be conducted by worker organizations before approaching the authorities to advocate on their behalf.

International Women's Day: A dozen countries in Asia-Pacific say 'yes' in principle to international labour standard for domestic workers - global discussion at ILC in June

The ILO and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will launch a new project to help fishers, farmers and workers in a Philippine province affected by conflict and natural disasters, in partnership with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).
