SKILL-UP Tanzania

Tanzanian TVET system has achieved significant milestones, particularly in increasing the number of young women and men enrolled in post basic/general education and training. Despite this impressive trend, Tanzania TVET system is facing several challenges both at systemic and implementation/provider level. Skills development access is also a serious challenge affecting sections of the population by gender, disability status and geographic location. However, Tanzania trade activities have been growing steadily in the past 5 years with export picking up for the third year in a row.

The SKILL-UP Tanzania project provides support through:
  • Training of recently established national tripartite steering committee members on linking education and training to current and future market demands
  • Strengthening coordination and monitoring capacity
  • Capacity building of private sector such as sector skills associations training institutions, trade organizations and related institutions
  • Support for relevant institutions to develop tools that will facilitate skills assessments, skills anticipation and skills gap analysis
The current project builds on the significant progress that has been made in piloting apprenticeship programmes and building critical awareness and preliminary capacity for relevant skills development programme in 2018-2020.
